There’s a very real difference between honesty and transparency. Being honest I can say that my revenue on YouTube has gone up by 30% since I started doing Mukbangs. Being transparent would be saying exactly how much money I’m making is. There are very real reasons that mentors and advisors cannot no, and do not want, to be transparent even when they are being completely honest.
I’ve learned the lesson about dancing with the one who took you to the ball. My wife made fun of me sending thank you cards to other professionals for bringing me business parties. Friendly professional is not the same as friendly friend.
My hope when getting mentors, is that one day I’ll be able to help them with their questions.
In our culture, we call it “stupid” rather than “transparent” as mentioned in your post.
