Try waterproof mortar instead. Actuality you must talk to a professional about this. Water always takes the easiest way, and it will beat you at the end.

Eli I have waterproofed a lot of basements. Poster above mentioned mortar. I have used a product called Thoroseal will great success many times. Use regular mortar to fill the large voids. Then apply the Thoroseal. It resembles fine mortar. Mix with water, can be applied with stiff brush or trowel. Comes in white and other colors. Normally apply two coats. It is used for lining swimming pools and water tanks. Hope this helps.
