  1. Another great interview with Linus Torvalds https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rPVeu4bsn3U
emphasizing how he works towards development being as boring as possible, the importance of a solid workflow over “interesting” code/features/bug-fixes, and seems to be passionate a bit more about scuba-diving than the main topic…

Converting hobby (passion) to a payed job is a dangerous thing. Where do you go when the thing you like inevitably give you grief on a bad day? Its an amazing feeling when you get payed living wage for something used to do for fun as an escape from the other things you don’t like. Its horrifying, when have bad day at work and realize that same thing used to go to for “refreshing” yourself is now the thing giving you stress today and there is no backup “passion” to catch relief at.

    • P.S.
Hyper-focus on tech also brings lower quality product. When developers/technicians forget the “WHY” of building technologies the user experience and end-goal gets neglected. Elaborating on Eli’s struggle, if repairing OS is so fun, it does not need fixing! We just keep repairing it, and innovate fancy repair tools! After all, computers exist just for the sake being repaired, no?! You say you want to do WHAT with your computer some p-a-y-r-o-l? I do not know what that even means, go away.
